freemason initiation secrets
Did the Catholic Church set up secret societies like the Knights of Columbus in order to compete with?

the freemasons and other groups like the international order of the odd fellows? A friend of mine joined the K of C to play on their baseball team and they initiated him by taking him down to the basement blindfolded and making him repeat some things while kneeling over a coffin. This is almost exactly like the masonic initiation… but the church has been bad mouthing groups like the freemasons for centuries, what’s up with that?
@ Daver, that’s pretty much how many freemasons would describe their fraternity.. :-)

As a third degree KC and i can tell you your friend is not being truthful. First off you have to be a Catholic in good standing with the Church, and secondly we would never recruit a person only to play base ball. So your question starts off false but their are anti Catholics that will believe you but i know of no KC who will. And yes we have a secret ceremony, but it is nothing like your friend described, an basically it is a Promise never to reveal the ceremony; and the reason for that is so each new member is surprised as all are initiated with the same ceremony.
When Father McGivney founded the KC; it was so the new immigrants coming to America that were Catholic could belong to a Organization, where as they could buy insurance for much less than other insurances so that when a member died there family was not left totally destitute. Today our insurance an annuity is rated one of the most secure in the world, and our annuities have never lost money and even with a down Market our annuities are paying 3.5%.
No Catholic can belong to the Masons because of their universal belief that all religions are equal. Nothing more nothing less. Now if you want to create a conspiracy notion out of that then fine but we know the truth. And yes a Catholic is not to receive the sacraments of the Church if a member of the Masons. And no we don’t go around bad mouthing the Masons but when asked, we explain why a Catholic should not be a Member.
